Have You Heard of Enrique Peña Nieto?

Enrique Peña Nieto is adored for his movie star looks, earning him the nickname of “a male Barbie” or the “Beckham of the PRI party”. Among all those running for president, Nieto is perhaps the most popular at the moment. His opponents are worried that if the elections were held today, he would definitely win.

Despite the period for campaigning not yet officially starting, Nieto's fame among the voters has been steadily rising. One of his specialtiies is the art of public speaking, which obviously helps his cause. He is said to be a most magnetic politician, with the ability to pull in voters as well as admirers.

Enrique Pena Nieto's immense popularity is blamed on his alleged deal with Televisa, Mexico's most powerful television network. They say that he paid off the media conglomerate to get it to repeatedly show news about the things he has already achieved, in a sort of TV campaign. This, they say, is why Televisa always seems to be in support of Nieto's work.

Notably enough, these claims came out after Nieto and Angelica Rivera confessed to their relationship. Rivera is one of the most famous actresses from the network, a major star. Nieto eventually married Rivera, some time after his previous wife passed away.

The pair had a trio of offspring. His first wife passed away due to some heart problems some years ago. This made Nieto one of the most popular single Mexicans in the country.

But Nieto is not simply a man known for his pull on the ladies. Part of his previous gubernatorial campaign was traveling to different parts of the state, asking constituents what public works they need, and pledging to deliver these promises or commitments or what he calls “compromisos”. It is in relation to this that his concern for infrastructure has been noted.

Nieto actually used the completion of various promised projects as campaign events. It is no surprise that Nieto is perceived as someone who can deliver when it comes to promises. Opponents still note that Nieto's expenditures for the promotions of his "completed promises" were far higher than the expenditures for the completion of the promises themselves.

His contenders and detractors also found more reasons to criticize him because of a recent controversy that happened when he presented his book “México: La Gran Esperanza” at the Guadalajara International Book Fair. The former governor became the target of jokes for failing to recall the titles and authors of books that he considered his favorites. He said then that he always found it hard to remember titles and authors, being more concerned with the text itself.

The errors he made, though, set off a wave of critique over various channels. The issue was further ignited when his eldest daughter, Paulina, labeled her father's critics as a bunch of morons who only criticize him because they envy his position. Even now, in spite of all the politician's efforts to stem the critics, they are still making fun of him for his alleged lack of intellectualism.

Enrique Peña Nieto has noted that his opponents tend to take his words out of context. All the same, Nieto is still the most popular candidate for the presidency. It is said that he is most likely to win due to the voters' liking for him.
